Innovator shortlisted for prestigious HSJ Digital Award

Roberta Fuller, Associate Director for Major Capital Projects and Programme Director for the Women and Children’s Hospital Programme, has been shortlisted for Digital Innovator of the Year at the 2025 HSJ Digital Awards.

This award recognises an individual who has best demonstrated the success, both current and potential, of a new process, way of working, digital product or initiative.

Roberta has been pivotal in initiating our Silent Hospital project, which focuses on reducing noise and “alarm fatigue” on our postnatal ward by silencing patient call bells and routing alerts directly to staff smartphones.

The project utilises a digital platform to enhance communication and streamline work processes, including a “silent handover” process during shift changes. The implementation has resulted in a quieter ward environment, improved patient sleep quality, and a calmer working atmosphere for staff. Patient recovery times and staff satisfaction have both improved, demonstrating the positive impact of the silent hospital approach.

The HSJ Digital Awards shine a light on teams and organisations driving meaningful change through technology, improving patient outcomes, streamlining processes and enhancing the overall quality of care.

This year marks a milestone for the HSJ Digital Awards, with a record-breaking 432 entries submitted. Of which, 205 projects have been shortlisted, each demonstrating remarkable ingenuity, passion and transformative impact in digital health.

The winners will be revealed at the HSJ Digital Awards ceremony on Thursday 26 June, in a night dedicated to celebrating the brightest minds and most impactful projects in digital health.
